Windows 8 Consumer Preview

Mar 2, 2012 at 10:30 AM

Hi,

Do you have plans to upgrade MVVM Light for Windows 8 Consumer Preview? Do you know when?

Hi,

Of course. I hope to have code ready and tested tomorrow, DLLs available by the end of the weekend. However project templates and installer will take a bit longer. Stay tuned to my blog (blog.galasoft.ch) for an announcement.

Cheers
Laurent

Wonderfull. I'll continue to develop on the Technical Preview, and port it over to Consumer Preview when the DLL's are available. Thanks! And great work by the way!

Have a nice day!

Hi,

what about adding a RaisePropertyChanged method for Windows 8 that doesn't require propertyName parameter by using CallerMemberName attribute?
Here is an example: http://danrigby.com/2012/03/01/inotifypropertychanged-the-net-4-5-way/

Hi,

Yeah that's the plan. I have other things with higher priority first though. But I have this item on my backlog.

Cheers

Hi,

thank you very much.

It would be great also to have a navigation system to navigate between pages from viewmodel.
What about also using NETFX_CORE conditional symbol (that is the default when creating a new project) instead of WIN8?

I think MVVM Light Toolkit is the best MVVM framework because it's easy to use and fast to learn.

Hi,

For the navigation, it is a little too specific for MVVM Light, my philosophy is to provide a basis series of components and to allow people to build on top of this. For example some developers have created the WP7Contrib project that builds on top of MVVM Light. I will consider it though, maybe for a later version.

This is a good point regarding the precompiler directive, I just want yo make sure with the team what exactly they use this for, to see if it is indeed uniquely identifying Win8 projects.

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Cheers
Laurent

Hey Laurent,

is it possible that you could also ship a package for Visual Studio 11 on Windows 7? :)

I would like to start with MVVM for my WPF-Projects but Prism is currently too scary for me so I would like to use MVVM Light Toolkit.

Looking forward to your response!

Hi,

Good point. I am packaging the MVVM Light V4 RC currently. I will add an option to install in VS11 if available.

Cheers,

Laurent

Hi,

The RC source code is available on Codeplex in the Source section as of yesterday evening.

I am now working on an installer and a change log. Hope to have that ready this week.

Hi,

I´m using the Windows 8 Metro version of MVVM Light (excellent). Now, when I test my app with the Windows App Certification Kit (Windows ACK) and have an error with the Microsoft.Practices.ServiceLocation.dll that says it´s compiled in debug mode.

Error: Following errors were encountered while running the Debug Binary Check test.

  • The binary Microsoft.Practices.ServiceLocation.dll is built in debug mode.

Where I can find this dll compiled in Release mode?.

Regards,

Andrés
